In a 4 Cycle engine the Camshafts are driven by the Crankshaft from the timing belt or chain which operates the intake and exhaust valves during engine operation.

Asymmetrical G-Controlled Profile

When opening the intake valve during high acceleration the G *1 from the camshaft requires to send as much mixture to the cylinder in the shortest time possible. However if the speed is too high it can damaged the Valves, Valve Seats and Valve Springs if the Acceleration G is too high. The Asymmetrical profile design given to the camshafts will allow the Intake and Exhaust Valves to fulfill the target requirement with the wider duration and high lift without damaging the Valve System.

 

 

 

Maximizing the Valves Efficiency
The general purpose of engine tuning is to change the torque characteristics of the engine by changing the cams duration timing and cam lift amount for maximum torque and horse power. However tuning the engine is not only based on that. When going into finer details by maximizing the Valves efficiency is not just about timing and height lift but to also maximize the intake efficiency. The high valve lift allows huge amounts of air in but at the same time it mechanically damages the valve train and gains added friction loss. Longer cam durations and big cam lifts give deliver more power at higher engine speeds but it also gives a rough idle and at low engine speeds. Tomei engineers worked hard to produce camshafts that will deliver a well balanced profile at 1.3-1.5 times more than the stock camshaft.

Coating the surface of camshaft with manganese phosphate in order to protect from damage even when the camshaft has not lubricated yet. This has done by steeping press process that produces 0.5mm to 15 micromillimeter thin of manganese phosphate coating on its surface to prevent from direct contact with other metal parts while realizing smooth operation.

CNC*2 Super Precise High Speed Grinding.

Peripheral speed 80 m/s 4400rpm. The combination of a ultra high-speed main bearing and diamond grindstone is controlled by the newest 32-bit computer. By using the same special-purpose machine as an automaker, high precision grinding is realized though in 1/3 period of time. Consequently, incredible accuracy of profile and remarkable low price were realized at the same time.

Wavy Groove Finish by Oscillation Grinding

Wavy groove is curved to the cam profile surface by oscillation during cam grinding process. Oil pool that is formed on the cam profile surface reduces a friction loss and prevents locking.

PONCAM, PROCAM

We are offering two different type of the camshafts.

PONCAM: High performance can be gained by easy installation. Drop in camshafts that are designed to suit the stock valve train and ECU.@

PROCAM: Are designed for serious professional performance use for high power and torque applications. Procams do require additional valve train upgrades and an programable aftermarket ECU to configure the correct new engine management setup.

The speed of the opening valve acceleration is increased when the cam lobe pushes the valve lifter, however during deceleration the valve is affected by the valves mass during the returning load of the valve springs.

Valve timing adjusted
Valve timing is opening and closing timing of intake and exhaust valve that are linking to the piston movement,@and it is expressed with the crankshaft angle from TDC or BDC of the piston. When installing new camshaft, idle stability or low-mid range torque are dramatically charged by 1‹degree of valve timing adjustment that controls overlap or valve closing timing. Valve timing is usually adjusted by engine-tuner who is working on with the test driver. So as PONCAM, the best duration timing and the valve lifts are decided from torque characteristic and acceleration data that is based on huge numbers of tests both on the bench actual running. Accordingly, dowel pin is shifted to the proper position at the same time.
You'll get the best valve timing without any adjustment but just a replacement of the factory camshaft with PONCAM.
¦Acceleration G is calculated with G-sensor that are attached at front, rear, left and right side of the vehicle. As for the reference, acceleration G of Formula 1 car is 3G, and of fighter plane is 6 to 7 G.

Easy installation
Not to mention that easy installation of lash adjuster type, also in the solid type of RB26 engine, shim adjustment was almost made unnecessary according to the super-high precision of the size of a cam base circle.

No necessary to replace to the high performance valve spring
In the profile design of a camshaft, we succeeded in reducing the burden to a valve spring sharply by enlarging the acceleration of opening valve, while compressing the acceleration of closing valve. There is no necessity for exchange of a valve spring, if stock spring is in a usable statement at the moment of cam installation.

The biggest development target of PONCAM was acquiring the high power in all stages.
In the past, gaining power at high RPM might be too persisted though; we suggest that the real tuning car should run quickly and smoothly from low RPM to high RPM. In development of PONCAM, we have tested every each models of vehicles both or the bench and actual running for the best results.
It is all based on the progress of technology when has not beer realized in the past.
And it could already be called Õthe new PerformanceÕ rather than just the high quality.

Extra ordinal acceleration performance
We use acceleration G sensor in the test to measure the performance of trial camshafts,@and succeeded in giving the best profile that realized quick acceleration response.
Installation of PONCAM lets blown engine to have quicker boost response, NA engine to improve combustion efficiency in low RPM, and any car to run much quicker.

Stable idle
PONCAM is thoroughly designed to give engine stable idle with its suitable duration timing, lift height, and the amount of over lap. Neither an engine stole nor hunching also happens by stability of an idling.

Making a good use of VVT
” Variable Valve Timing is the electronic system that controls opening and closing timing of the valve to get a ideal combustion, such as NVCS of NISAN. Consequently, gaining high out put in high RPM and realizing big torque and long mileage per gas in low RPM at the same time. And with 106°, engine performs more torque at low-mid RPM. VVT takes advantages of both of the above and shows most ideal performance.

The Best performance for 'drift' driving
” As mentioned before, the development target of PONCAM was raising performance in all stages. In 'drift' driving, driver controls the vehicle's sliding angle with a delicate accelerator work, and installation of POCAM enables 'drift' drivers to control the vehicle much easier with its sharp response to the input. Moreover, according to its better controllability, driver can raise the entering speed at the corner that succeeded in gaining sliding angle distance at the same time.

The best fit with bolt on turbo
” Usually, installation of bolt on turbine without changing camshaft will result in the reducing torque at low RPM since there is not enough combustion occurred at low RPM with stock camshaft. With PONCAM, on the other hand, it will send enough Exhaust gas to rotate turbine ever from low RPM. (And keeps delving power until rev-limit.)

PONCAM + ADJUSTABLE CAM GEAR
” Although PONCAM has given suitable valve timing, it is also possible to adjust the valve timing more specifically. Since PONCAM had been set at certain initial valve, adjustment of the valve timing can be done only by shifting cam gear along with the dial to the desirable direction, instead of using lots of measuring instruments and taking lots of times. This user adjustable character would be one of the biggest reasons to install PONCAM, as well as its reasonable price.

It is available to adjust the valve timing and change the engine out put characteristics by change the valve closing timing according to the initial value.

PONCAM + TOMEI ECU
” There will be a need of reprogram for the ECU if camshaft has been replaced. We developed the ECU that specially reprogrammed to fit to PONCAM, which is available as a kit with PONCAM. The setting of ECU is varied from basic SYSTEM1 to more advanced model that is including the exchange of turbine or injector. Also, the prices will be cheaper as they provided kit.

PONCAM + REYTEC
” We are collecting basic data of REYTEC for every other vehicle as well as the original ECU. WeÕll install the initial data to REYTEC, according to the subjects of order sheet. REYTEC using Air flow-less intake controls so that the better response and more power is provided. Moreover, VVT timing is also available to be modified by REYTEC for better performance of PONCAM. ” When it asks for super-high power in drag race or circuit time attack, huge modification is needed to normal engine. Especially when using the big turbo-charger or when making it high compression with NA engine, the best suitable cam for the characteristic of vehicles can be chosen from abundant lineup.

Solid type is now available
” Lash adjuster of SR20, RB20, RB25, VG30, and CA18 are sometimes failing to follow the cam rotation in high RPM. Therefore, we designed the special cam profile for solid type simultaneously with the development of solid pivot and solid lifter for easier exchange to the solid type that can follow the 'super-high RPM'.

Central lubrication model
” With Silvia N2 race engine and etc, we succeeded in reducing contact resistance of locker arm and cam by lubricating cam from the center of the camshaft. As a result, the friction loss was reduced, locking was prevented, and high rotation and high durability were realized.
