The connecting rods role is to transfer the compressed pressure that the piston receives to the crankshaft. When the connecting rod becomes one with the piston the connecting rods inertial weight and balance then plays a major factor in the smoothness of the engines rotation assembly and durability at high RPM. The weight factor itself will dramatically change the engines characteristics. The overall strength, balance and light weight properties that the TOMEI connecting rod design will take your engine to the next level.

H-BEAM DESIGN
The selection process between both I-Beam & H-beam design is usually decided upon the weight, buckling strength & production costs for the conrods. We have designed & made conrods for Nissan RB,SR,VQ, Mitsubishi 4G, Subaru EJ & also for Toyota 3S, 1J & 2J engines. We chose to aim for overall strength while maintaining a light weight design.

THE CONRODS UNIQUE FORGING PROCESS
THE CONRODS BODY & CAP ARE FORGED SEPERATELY!
The key factors in making the strength in the forged conrods lies in the "metal flow" (or fiber flow). The conventional conrod is made as a whole piece and then it the main hole is cut into the body and later again cut into 2 pieces which weakens the conrod. Our original conrod was made as 2 serperate pieces from the beginning. This method has proven to be the best for results in stronger connecting rods.
* The key points of metal flow (fiber flow) is to have the metal flow all in the same direction to maximise strength.
The forging process ensures that the conrod is capable of high stress loads at high RPMs when the tension loads exceed 1 ton.

REAL STRENGTH
 
When the rigidness is insufficient enough at the large end, the metal housing can deform, which can cause metal burns. In order to guarantee overall strength where the rod is connected, the large end was made smoother and the "shoulder form shaped" was adopted.

SECURED CONNECTION STRENGTH
 

The strength of the connection is raised with the design aspects of the meting face of the rod. This minimizes the chances of elliptical deformations caused when under serious stress loads from serious power applications and thus maintaining the correct conrod bearings clearances.

PROTECTING THE CRANKS THRUST FACE
   
If the thrust aspect of the connecting rods large end is designed as a simple circle, the conrods side will cause irregular wear on the cranks thrust aspect area and thus shortening the life of the crankshaft. The TOMEI conrods thrust protector is designed to come into contact with the entire contact surface area rather that just the thrust aspect of the crank.

STRUCTURE OF THE SMALL END
Extra Oil Hole Further Increases Lubrication Efficiency!
 
The oil cap bush now has 2 holes for oil to enter for lubrication. This bush experiences high load whilst providing oil hole from the top of the bar when the upper piston pin is pressed down when the conrod rises. Unlike other aftermarket conrod designs our H-Beam conrod design does not have the oil feed in the center of the rod from the big end. This way the center is solid for maximum strength.

ARP L19 CONROD BOLTS
ARP L19 rod bolts were selected for our applications due to the superior strength and fatigue properties. A special thinner frame was designed with minimal burden on the threads. The threads was cut into the connecting rod side since no nuts are used which helps with weight reduction. This design promotes strength while benefiting with weight reductions. L19 is the top range type of ARP rod bolts used since it’s a much higher strength material compared to the ARP2000 and is capable of delivering the highest clamp loads possible.

SNCM439 METAL
The SNCM439 material is normally used only when considerably high rigidity is required. High strength conditions are key elements for the conrod for supporting a highly efficient turbocharged engine. Nickel was also added for extra tension resistance.

NOCK PIN
To help prevent burns where the metal connects to one another a nock sleeve is inserted in the bolthole to help reduce any gaps between the face of rod side and the cap side. This maintains a more secured fitment.

ARP MOLYBDENUM GREASE INCLUDED
The ARP Molybdenum grease is highly resistant against heat and pressure, enabling a accurate torque figure when tightening the fastener.

The materials used and forms (apart from the reinforced rib on the large ends outside edge) and rod bolts will be the similar to the TOMEI connecting rods to retain the high quality required.
